.Tricks and Treats.

Traditions - PUMPKINS: In the begining of the episode, Sabrina is carving pumpkins even though her friends think it's lame. She also turns one into pie when it back talks her. Sabrina: "There! I’ve finished Jack-o-lantern...With a seriously deviated septum."

Quip - Sabrina: "Hey! You guys are just in time to carve pumpkins with me." Roxie: "And you’re about twelve years too late. I haven’t carved a pumpkin since I was... six." Sabrina: "Miles, you’ll carve a pumpkin with me right?" Miles: "And perpetuate one of the most ridiculous, bogus holidays ever invented by man?" Sabrina: "I’ll take that as a no. I can’t believe you’re dissing Halloween, the same guy who sits in his room waiting to be picked up by aliens." Miles: "That’s not true. I contact them from my room, I wait on the roof."

Quip - Sabrina: "But I’ve also got good news. This Halloween I’m going to spend the holiday with you guys." Zelda: "You’re what?!" Hilda: "You can’t!" Sabrina: "Nothing like being embraced in the bosom of your family on the most special day of the year."

Traditions - DECORATING: Sabrina's party decorations include fall leaves garland, hay garland, a Happy Halloween sign, witch hats, orange and black tull fabric, cauldrons, net lights, spider webs, skeleton, a big demon face w/glowing eyes, and pumpkins.

Traditions - ALIENS: Sabrina is baffled that Miles isn't into Halloween but he attempts to contact Aliens. Sabrina: "No I’ll just hang out with Miles and wait for the mother-ship to beam us up." Hilda: "Say hi to the Android sisters for us."

Traditions - WITCHES: Sabrina is finally realizing the importance of Halloween and why its linked to the very core of her being. Sabrina: "Y’know it’s the weirdest thing, I can’t think of anything but Halloween these days, what’s that about? I know, I have no life." Salem: "And then there’s the whole witch thing." Sabrina: "Y’know after all these years of rebellion I’m finally ready to embrace the truth. Halloween is in my blood." Salem: "Say it loud and say it proud!" Sabrina: "Time for me to put on the orange and black and show the world who I am."

Traditions - BOBBING FOR APPLES: An apple bob is one of the things Sabrina is planning for her party but none of her friends seem into it. Sabrina: "Well mine is gonna be great! A classic Halloween celebration with costumes, spooky lighting, bobbing for apples." Morgan: "Like I said, seven parties is plenty." Roxie: "Bobbing for apples?" Sabrina: "Or pears. You can bring your own fruit, I’m flexible."

Quip - Sabrina: "Okay, listen up and listen good you Hallowhiners. All right, holidays give us a reason to celebrate. On Christmas we get to put up decorations, on new years we party all night long, on thanksgiving we eat until we puke but on Halloween we get to do all of those things whilst wearing a silly costume. It may not mean much to you but it means a lot to me and I expect each and every one of you to show up."

Quip - Joyce: "Honey, all I can give you is the basic ghoul package. Not very exciting but it does come with...a free bucket of puss." Sabrina: "Do you have anything a little scarier? That one guy seems scared of me. Look, I have to kick some major Halloween butt. I have to prove to a house full of sceptics that this holiday rocks."

Quip - Sabrina: "Frankenstein! That’s perfect. I mean sure he’s got a criminal record." Joyce: "Frank doesn’t normally work on Halloween, he must need the money. Gambling problem." Sabrina: "I’ll take him. And if you have any buddies with massive debts, y’know bring them along."

Traditions - TRICK OR TREATING: Sabrina mistakes trick or treaters for eary party guests and accidentally runs them off. Sabrina: "Go away, you’re early!" (The three trick-or-treating children in Halloween costumes look upset, and they turn away.) Sabrina: "Sorry, I didn’t mean it! Here!" (She throws treat bags at them) Sabrina: "Oh! Sorry again!"

Costumes - Sabrina dresses as Little Bo Peep. Salem: "Oo-hoo-hoo. What a lame get-up. Oh Miss Bo Peep, it seems you’ve lost your sheep." Sabrina: "I haven’t lost him, he’s right here."

Costumes - Salem is forced to dress as one of Peep's sheep. Salem: "Ghu! I can’t pick up college chicks looking like this! On the other hand I’m so soft a fuzzy... Ba-a-ah!"

Quip - Muffy: "Sabrina, your cat is adorable... and so friendly." Sabrina: "A little tip. Candy-corn makes him gassy."

Costumes - Josh dresses up as a doctor.

Costumes - Morgan dresses up as a gypsy.

Spooks - Sabrina uses a party planner from the Other Realm and has real frights to entertain her party guests. She manages to get a mummy, Cyclops, ghouls and even Frakenstien. Once everyone finds out what a great time Sabrina's party is turning out to be, lots of other ghouls show up as well. We also meet Frankenstien's Bride when Sabrina and her aunts have to patch up a tear in their relationship.

Quip - Miles: "I can’t figure out how he does that. Sabrina you are the Queen of Halloween." Sabrina: "Er well I prefer to think of myself as humble shepherdess. Excuse me while I tend to my flock."

Quip - Ghoul: "I’m telling you dudes, forget the Other Realm, this party is raging. Look, call everybody and tell them to get their decaying butts over here. Later."

Quip - Sabrina: "A hearst load of ghouls. Could be a problem."

Quip - Sabrina: "If you’re going to shove devilled eggs up your nose, keep them there."

Quip - Sabrina: "I am so dead!" Ghoul: "Been there... Still there."

Quip - Sabrina: "Everybody I know was dissing Halloween and as a witch I felt I should stand up for our holiday. Y’know, defend our heritage."

Quip - Joyce: "Oh, and The Cyclops is also missing a foot." Sabrina: "Oh darn! We were using it to stir the punch!"

Quip - Roxie: "We’re actually looking forward to next Halloween." Sabrina: "Well I guess I accomplished my mission then. I made people appreciate what a meaningful holiday it is."

Other costumes seen through the episode include - Trick or Treaters: pirate, princess and a cat. Party Goers: football player, clown, hawiian guy, wizzard, cheerleader, indian girl, gladiator, mexican guy, cat, prisoner, hippie, hula girl, school girl and a soldier.

.Dialogue To Die For.

Sabrina: "They would never let me have a party here when they’re not home!"
Salem: "Girlfriend, aren’t you learning anything in college? Don’t tell them."

Zelda: "Sir! Would you mind not staring at my planets?"

Muffy: "Why are you leading me towards the bedroom kitty? Do you wanna show me your little mousie?"

Hilda: "This is where the fog usually shows up. Oh why didn’t I bring a date?"

.Dialogue To Bury.

Zelda: "Frankenstein, you’re going to work things out with your wife by hook or by crook."

.Pop! Goes the Culture.

Jack: "I’m up for some fun baby, let’s grab a bottle of Colt forty-five and put on some Luther."
Luther Vandross is a soul singer known for his romantic ballads who started his career in the 1970s as a session vocalist. In the 1980, his career skyrocketed with several successful albums which continued into the 1990s all the way to 2004 when he won a Grammy award for Song of the Year with Richard Marx for 'Dance with My Father'.

Salem: [Gasp!] "IBM down an eighth?!"
IBM, short for International Business Machines Corporation, has been in operation since 1888 and is now the largest information technology company in the world. They manufacture and sell computer hardware, software and services.

Salem: "I’m going to scratch out Greenspan’s eyes."
Alan Greenspan has been the Chairman of the United States Federal Reserve Board since 1987, having been elected for an unprecedented 5th term by President Bush in May of 2004. He is considered by many to be the leading authority and key participant concerning United States domestic policy.

Hilda: "Oh maybe I’ll wear what I wore to the Shonan Bah mitzvah. They had that Battlestar Galictica theme."
Battlestar Galactica is a science fiction television series, produced in 1978 by Glen Larson. It was about a fleet of human refugees on a desperate search for the legendary planet Earth. A sequel series, called Galactica 1980 premiered in January of 1980. In it, the fleet found and protected Earth but the series was a quick failure due to its low budget, widely-panned writing and ill-placed time slot.

Joyce: "Okay I’ll tell you what, I’ve got a big fella who owes me. How about the creature from the black lagoon?"
The 1954 horror film, Creature from the Black Lagoon is considered a classic of the 1950s monster B-movies. Starring Richard Carlson, Julie Adams and Richard Denning, it is about the discovery of the fabled black lagoon and its prehistoric menace, a fish/human hybrid during a fossil expedition along the Amazon River.

Sabrina: "Frankenstein! That’s perfect. I mean sure he’s got a criminal record."
Frankenstien is a novel by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, first published in 1818, it is considered to be the very first science fiction novel. It is said that the name Frankenstien is the surname of a man she met in Silesia during a European trip who must have made an impression on her. The book is about a man who figures out how to bring life to an inanimate matter and sets out to construct a beautiful creature. However when his task is completed he finds that he has created a monster.

Salem: "Oh Miss Bo Peep, it seems you’ve lost your sheep."
Little Bo Peep is a character from a nursery rhyme of the same title. She is a shepherdess who loses her sheep and receives advice on how to get them back. The most common version is as follows: Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep, and can't tell where to find them. Leave them alone and they'll come home, wagging their tails behind them.

Sabrina: "In your dreams lamb-chop."
Lambchop was the main character of a 1960s children's television show. He was a sheep puppet voiced by show creator and host, Shari Lewis.

Nigel: "By any chance could you get me another? Shaken, not stirred." Hilda: "Sorry double ‘O’ Zero. We don’t work here, we’re invited just like everybody else."
James Bond (a.k.a. Agent 007) is the main character in a string of secret agent movies, who often introduced himself the way Xander did. The character, who has been played by such actors as Sean Connery and (most recently) Pierce Brosnan, is notoriously suave, sophisticated, and popular with the ladies. This isn't the first time Bond has been referenced.

Ghoul: "Look, before this turns into an after-school special, you should know we’re about to go into overtime."
An after school special is a genere of children's television programing that is aimed at teens and pre-teens. The shows were generally timed for when these age groups were let out of school, hence the name. The programs taught social and life lessons about right and wrong with poor scripts and bad acting.

Salem: "Ahh, it was the summer of forty-two. I was having my illicit fling with Eleanor Roosevelt."
Anna Eleanor Roosevelt (10/11/1884 - 11/7/1962) was a human rights activist, diplomat and and the wife of US President Franklin Roosevelt. She was named First Lady of the World by President Harry S. Truman due to her humanitarian activities such as visting the WWII troops on the frontlines, being a first wave feminist, an active member of the American Civil Rights movement and for being involved with the formations of many institutions such as the United Nations.

Sabrina: "He’s married?" Zelda: "Of course, to the bride of Frankenstein."
The Bride of Frankenstien movie was released four years after the first Karloff Frankenstien film in 1931. It chronicles the tale of Dr. Frankenstien who his forced by his monster to build him a mate. The script is adapted from Mary Shelley's Frankenstien novel.

.Goofs, Gaffes and Nitpicks.

If Sabrina has her own place now, why would she risk all the hassle to secretly have the party at her aunts house? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Roxie and Miles dont like Halloween. They went to Sabrina's party anyway.

The same plastic stack of lighted pumpkins that is in Hilda and Zelda's kitchen is focused on in the opening shot of the coffee shop scene.

When Sabrina returns the ghouls to Joyce's office, the ghoul that Joyce says is missing an ear which Sabrina retrieves from her pocket is not the ghoul who gave Sabrina his ear at the party.

.Misc Notes.

This was the episode they used to celebrate the series 100th episode even though it was episode #103.

In case you didn't notice, this episode was directed by Melissa Joan Hart herself.

In the living room of Sabrina's college dorm was a street sign for Ashmont Terrace. Ashmont was the production company that William Asher and Elizabeth Montgomery had during the last few seasons of "Bewitched".

This scene is usually cut out of the syndicated airings of this episode:

Joyce: "Honey, all I can give you is the basic ghoul package."
She hits return on the computer and a bright light by the desk reveals three cobweb covered un-dead ghouls each with a silly smile.
Joyce: (Cont.) "Not very exciting but it does come with... (She lifts a heavy silver bucket from behind the desk) ...a free bucket of puss."
Sabrina: "Do you have anything a little scarier? That one guy seems scared of me."
The ghouls vanish.
Sabrina: (Cont.) "Look, I have to kick some major Halloween butt. I have to prove to a house full of sceptics that this holiday rocks."
Joyce: "Okay I’ll tell you what, I’ve got a big fella who owes me. How about the creature from the black lagoon?"
She hits return on her keyboard again and this time the light resolves into the scaly, seaweed and barnacle encrusted fish monster from the deep.
Sabrina: "Oh, that wont work. None of our furniture is Scotch guarded.
Joyce: "He loses a lot of gigs that way."
The monster vanishes as Joyce gets suddenly excited.
